 1. About aircraft

AN-30, aircraft for aerial surveillance and aerial photographic imagery, was developed in the Development Design Office named after Antonov on the middle of 60th on the basis of AN-24 (Ан-24) passenger aircraft and AN-26 (Ан-26) Air Force cargo aircraft.

The first prototype of this aircraft was manufactured in the plant No. 49 belonging to the Development Design Office of Beriev in 1967. In 1971 after successful passing of official acceptance tests in the Research Institute of Air Force and in the State Research Institute of Civil Aviation, the serial production of the AN-30 aircraft was commenced in the Trud Kiev Aviation Plant. In all from 1971 to 1980 115 airplanes of various modifications were manufactured, at that, 23 of them for export (to Afghanistan, Bulgaria, and Vietnam, People Republic of China, Cuba, Czech Republic, and Mongolia).

The system of navigation and landing equipment, which is intended for flying day and night, as well as the system of automatic and semiautomatic equipment for aerial photographic imagery were mounted on the AN-30 board. Five glassed-in camera windows (No. 1 – 810 x 785 mm; No. 2 - 370 x 390 mm; No. 3 - 390 x 390 mm; No. 4 – 280 x 280 mm, and No. 5 280 x 280 mm) - were fixed up in the middle part of fuselage. Vertical and oblique aerial photographic imagery can be conducted from there. Navigator is in the glassed-in forward cabin of aircraft that makes it possible to conduct complicated aerial imagery in more qualitative way. Cabins for crew, navigator and for aerial photographic equipment are airtight and equipped with air-conditioning system.

Photo-cameras with various focal distances perform the operation of aerial photographic imagery in scales from 1:3,000 to 1:200,000. Photographic film can be processed directly on the aircraft board.

There are such modifications of this aircraft as AN-30 (Ан-30), the basic serial modification; AN-30A (Ан-30А), the aircraft modification for civil aviation (66 items were manufactured); AN-30 B (Ан-30Б), which is intended for military purposes (26 items were manufactured); Аn-30D (Ан-30Д) (long-range airplane) or “Siberian” (operating name), which is intended for patrolling the exclusive economic sea zone; and AN-30M (Ан-30М) or “Meteorological Protection” (operating name), which is intended for meteorological protection. .
